15 Day Challenge [Day 14]

[Day 14]: If you were only allowed to watch one movie for the rest of your life,
what movie would it be and why?

I could watch this movie over and over again NO PROBLEM!

As I have mentioned on my previous post, my favorite movie ever is You’ve Got Mail with Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks. It is a great little romantic comedy movie, set in the 1990’s, where the two main characters fall in love over the internet without knowing each other’s identity when in real life they are business adversaries.

The Shop Around the Corner was the inspiration for the story in You’ve Got Mail

You’ve Got Mail is a light, yet super funny and cute movie that reminds me of the old days when people had to wait for the internet to connect over telephone lines and where there was much anticipation over waiting for the aol voice to say “you’ve got mail” (yes, I lived in Brazil during that era, however I did have aol and there was a similar voice that said “chegou mensagem para voce” – same thing!).

I love this movie so much that, of course, I bought the DVD with all kinds of bonuses. When I was watching the bonus content on the DVD I learned that the story that inspired this movie is from the movie “The Shop Around the Corner,” a 1940’s romantic comedy where the characters fall in love over mail correspondence. The cute thing is that the characters in You’ve Got Mail give some hints about the love story on TSAC during the YVGM movie.

This movie also makes me think of how far we have come technology wise. There, she is super surprised when the instant message window pops up and the mystery man starts chatting with her. Now, we often expect people to text us over the phone or instant message us instead of giving us a real phone call. How about the fact that emails now are becoming obsolete! In the movie, they show the email box from Kathleen Kelley and she doesn’t have anything there. I get BOMBARDED with at least 100 emails per day now…makes me miss simpler days.

If you have not seen that movie yet DO IT! Here is the link to the preview.
